During the COID-19 pandemic, and moving forward, patients of Roberson Dental can rest assured that we will continue to follow the recommendations provided by the American Dental Association. Your Birmingham Dental Team continues to see patients on a case-by-case and emergency basis. We see patients as long as they are not displaying any COVID-19 type symptoms such as a fever, shortness of breath, or a persistent cough.

New Check-In Policies

Please note that we have changed our check-in policies to ensure our patients and the community are treated in a safe environment. These changes include:

  1. We take temperatures when patients arrive for check-in. If a person has a high temperature or fever, the appointment will be rescheduled.
  2. Adults are asked to come alone to their appointments.
  3. Adults who are bringing a child to an appointment are asked to only bring the child who has an appointment scheduled.
  4. We may ask patients are to remain in their vehicles after check-in until the dental staff is ready to see them. We will text or call when it is time to come into the dental office.

Frequently Asked Questions About the COVID-19 Pandemic

As precautions are still being taken to stop the spread of the coronavirus in Alabama, we are getting numerous questions. Here are answers to the ones we hear most often.

Is it dangerous to go to the dentist during a pandemic?

Roberson Dental adheres to the recommendations as set forth by the ADA, the CDC, OSHA, and the state of Alabama to continue to provide safe and compassionate care for our patients. Should we become unable to provide safe services, we will update accordingly.

Is Roberson Dental taking precautions to prevent infection?

Infection control prior to COVID-19 was of paramount importance in our dental offices. We have always followed strict infection control protocols as determined by the American Dental Association and the CDC. We continue to follow these guidelines:

  • Sanitization: Our personnel sanitizes all our public spaces including waiting rooms, restrooms, and treatment rooms.
  • Disinfectant Sprays: We apply a medical-grade disinfectant spray to operator rooms after each patient to abide by the CDC guidelines. This includes high-touch areas like countertops, equipment, and chairs.
  • Protective Barriers: We place a protective barrier on items like overhead lights, suction tips, computer keyboards, curing lights, and armrests.
  • Sterilization: After each patient, our dental instruments are sterilized.

Are you taking extra precautions during the pandemic?

  • Our staff understands they must stay home if they are displaying any symptoms such as difficulty breathing, sneezing, or coughing.
  • Staff members are encouraged to refrain from travel, but if they travel into a region that is a CDC Level 2 or 3, they are required to self-quarantine before coming back to work.
  • We have implemented a screening process for patients to determine if they have any COVID-19 symptoms or if they have been exposed to the virus. Presently, we have a three-point screening process. We screen when the appointment is booked when we confirm their appointment, and when they arrive for their appointment.
  • Also, we have increased the interval between patient appointments to respect social distancing.
  • Patients are asked to remain in their vehicles until Dr. Roberson or the dental hygienist is ready to see them.

Do I need to reschedule my appointments?

If you have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus, or have traveled to a region with a severe outbreak during the COVID-19 pandemic, you should reschedule your appointment. However, if you are healthy, you do not need to reschedule an appointment at this time.
