Your Birmingham dental team is aware of the new fluoride-free toothpastes which have recently hit the market, and are being advertised as a more natural product for people to use as their dental care product of choice. Dr. Roberson does not characterize these fluoride-free products as bad, but on the other hand, they also don’t provide the same level of dental care that fluoridated toothpaste does.

What makes fluoridated toothpaste better?

If fluoride-free, natural toothpastes carry any benefits, it’s that they might leave you with fresh breath for some period of time following your normal brushing routine, and can sometimes have the same cleaning or whitening agents that fluoridated toothpaste has. However, they don’t do nearly as much in terms of protecting your teeth against decay or the formation of cavities. Since fluoride helps to make the enamel of your teeth stronger, it provides an additional benefit to the toothpaste being used, which fluoride-free pastes simply cannot offer. If you want to keep your teeth healthy and strong, fluoridated toothpaste is one of the best options available to you.

That being said, make sure to talk to your Roberson Dental team if you have concerns about your fluoride intake or have more questions regarding your daily oral regimen. We are happy to field anything you are wondering about and will work with you to find what’s best for your health.
